MALAHORA (the witching hour) is the studio name for my visual artwork. As an interdisciplinary & archival artist, I look toward my ancestors and family for inspiration. My true passion lies in telling our stories, ones I didn’t see represented in books and media growing up.
We are the descendants of painters, writers, musicians — of curanderas, cantadoras, rancheros, pachucas, genízaros, and vaqueros. Staying true to my namesake, my visual work explores this context of intertwined memory, mythology & magic. It is through the traditions handed down within my maternal family, like herbalism and a sacred communion with the natural world, that I am able to connect my art practice to my family tree. I try to highlight the energy of the past with my unique drawing style and a vibrant, nostalgic color palette.
My work has been sought out in the past for exclusive collections and editorial illustration by groups like LucasFilms Ltd (Star Wars), Urban Outfitters, and Society6.
xo,
Let’s work together creatively.
